Samsung Unveils its Expansive Foldable Vision Beyond Smartphones at CES 2024
Samsung has produced five generations of foldable phones on the market, which competitors are now slowly catching up to. So the company is now looking beyond phones, and this week at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, Samsung will unveil its plans for the future of foldable devices.
We’re now seeing a full range of foldable displays that can be folded inward or outward depending on the shape. The company has several concepts in the works, which we hope will see the light from the tunnel. Folding laptops have already made their mark with brands like Lenovo and Asus introducing their market-ready products to consumers.
Phones have stalled mainly because form factors can now only see design changes and hardware upgrades.
However, the possibility of developing in other segments is wide open, and the South Korean brand can reinvent the product for the industry in the same way as it did with the Galaxy Fold line. Samsung seems to be aware of the durability issues with foldable panels, so the company puts them through rigorous tests by immersing them in water, spreading sand on the panel, and even rolling balls through the screen to see if it cracks. We’re also keen to see the company try its hand at the rollable segment, where brands like LG showed promise and flattered everyone with their price tags.
Folding laptops have shown promise, but their functionality is limited and the price of the technology makes it less accessible to many. It’s time for Samsung to pull a new trick to get the attention of all other companies in this market. While CES 2024 continues, the South Korean brand is busy laying the groundwork for the launch of the new Galaxy S24 series in the US later this month.
